Though Aceyalone’s mind-bending rhymes have garnered more widespread attention than the other solo endeavors of other ex-Freestyle Fellowship members, former Fellow Mikah Nine (or Myka Nyne, as he’s apparently now known) has managed to quietly establish a reputation as an equally impressive rapper. Though not possessed of the same lyrical skills as Acey, Mikah does have a more flexible delivery style, which is ably displayed on “Progress.” Equally at home with somnambulant funk (“Can We Smoke?” could well be the album’s centerpiece) as he is with unexpected jags like the drum ‘n’ bass punctuation of “D.N.B.N.M.,” Mikah is almost as talented and just as iconoclastic as Acey. Too bad he’s not as popular.
