Streaming Wednesday, May 27:

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder — Season 2 puts British teen sleuth Pip on the trail of another missing person, this time a young fellow who’s a sensitive musician type. Hey, who would have thought streaming would ever discover a young woman could be the detective and the vanished party they’re hunting for could be a male? Maybe this is a crossover with Stranger Things, because it sure sounds like we’re in the Upside Down. (Netflix)

My Two Cents — The third autobiographical animated series from Italian cartoonist Zerocalcare shows him struggling with the demands of running a small business, once again with an armadillo along for the ride to serve as the corporeal manifestation of his conscience. Fun fact: Scott Adams’ conscience took the form of Pepe the Frog. (Netflix)

Spider-Noir — Nicolas Cage portrays the Depression-era equivalent of Spider-Man in a gritty crime thriller that’s made some changes to the Marvel canon for the character’s first foray into live action. For one thing, his alter ego is no longer Peter Parker but one Ben Reilly, who longtime readers of the comics will remember was actually Parker’s clone. Meanwhile, people with actual lives will remember who they took to prom! (Prime Video)

Streaming Thursday, May 28:

Criminal Minds Evolution — Season 19 of the enduring police procedural welcomes Heated Rivalry’s Connor Storie in a mysterious role the producers have chosen to keep under wraps. No mean feat there, because we all know how much trouble Connor Storie has keeping things under wraps. (Paramount+)

Deli Boys — Fred Armisen has a recurring role as a casino manager in Season 2 of the comedy series that’s set amidst the Philadelphia underworld. But really, what other mountain was there for him to climb after he had skeeved us all out about visiting Portland? (Hulu)

Emi Martínez: The Kid Who Stops Time — Look, we weren’t going to make it through the week without at least one soccer show, but at least this profile of the Argentine goalkeeper has some unconventional elements, like recurring animation. You’re going to love the depiction of Martínez’s conscience as a capybara with a gambling problem. (Netflix)

The Four Seasons — They’ve already blown through the calendar year covered in the 1981 Alan Alda film, so for Tina Fey and her crew, Season 2 of this series remake was going to entail either tweaking and building on the events of the source material or inventing an entire fifth season. They chose the former, obviously, but was that really the best path to take? I mean, if they wanted to go the Downton Abbey route and eventually break out into theatrical, the title Six Seasons and a Movie was right there. (Netflix)

Murder Mindfully — The German mob lawyer returns for a second season of unconventional attempts to bring his personal and professional lives into harmony. This time, that entails an overdue reckoning with his inner child. See, it’s overdue because the little bastard has been stiffing him for 50 large. (Netflix)

Streaming Friday, May 29:

Brazil ’70: The Third Star — Goddamn it, they’re forcing us to sit through a second soccer show. It’s a historical documentary about the Brazilian team that in 1970 won the World Cup for the third time in a row — a triumph the movie crystallizes via immersive sequences that deposit us smack-dab in the middle of the action. If you want to know what it was like being in the stands, I’m sure you can find a commensurate viewing experience on Shudder. (Netflix)

Calabasas Confidential — The children of celebs like Scottie Pippen, Master P and Bret Michaels are among the stars of a reality show that explores life in the L.A. suburbs. OK, I know that sounds off-puttingly nepo. But from what I’ve heard, any one of us can explore life in the L.A. suburbs. All we have to do is take the 5, get on the 405 and take the 10 to the PCH. (Netflix)

Rafa — Thank you, Netflix, for remembering there are sports other than the eternally and unavoidably dull soccer. Take a break from the seemingly endless run-up to World Cup 2026 by reviewing the career highlights of Rafael Nadal, the Spanish legend who spent nearly two decades dominating the fast-paced, kill-or-be-killed pursuit known as … men’s tennis. JESUS CHRIST, can we please get Ronda Rousey out here again? (Netflix)

Smothered — Suffering from partial amnesia, an Indonesian painter begins to wonder if the woman who’s claiming to be his mother is really on the up and up. The first sign she isn’t is when she tells him it doesn’t matter how much money he gets for his stuff, as long as he’s pursuing a career that makes him happy. (Shudder)

Star City — The first spinoff from For All Mankind shows us a new angle on the world in which the Soviet Union won the space race, this time depicting that momentous accomplishment from the perspective of the victorious Russians themselves. Hey, giving the win to Moscow is the one way we might get MAGA to admit men actually landed on the Moon. (Apple TV)

Streaming Sunday, May 31:

AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Eddie Murphy — Friends and fans salute the landmark accomplishments of the generational talent who was unquestionably the greatest SNL cast member ever. And when we’re done hearing about Shane Gillis, there’ll also be some kind words for Eddie Murphy. (Netflix)

Streaming Tuesday, June 2:

Not Suitable for Work — Mindy Kaling’s quest to outdo Lena Dunham for sheer odiousness has already seen her defiling high school and college, so it was entirely predictable she would eventually turn her fetid attentions to the scenario of 20-somethings in the workforce. Wait a minute, doesn’t that sound like a certain show we all met her through? The difference is that the characters populating this office comedy are no Scranton schlemiels, but rather New Yorkers immersed in glamorous and lucrative pursuits like investment banking. Finger on the pulse, Mindy. If it’s any consolation, we already had you fitted for a guillotine anyway. (Hulu)
