2006 Academy Award Nominated Live Action Shorts
WorkNameSort: 2006 Academy Award Nominated Live Action Shorts
Collecting the five nominees for Best Short Film (Live Action), this 99-minute program exemplifies the economical strengths of the mini-movie format. It also speaks well of the Academy’s global attitude: Only one of the five films is from the U.S. That entry, ‘West Bank Story,â? is also the program’s funniest, a 21-minute musical about falafel stands on the West Bank. Opening film ‘Binta and the Great Ideaâ? (from Spain, but shot in Senegal) is considerably less funny, as it tells the story of a young African girl and her idealistic fisherman father striving to make their world a better place. Also in the program: ‘Helmer & Sonâ? (from Denmark), ‘The Saviourâ? (Australia) and ‘Ã?ramos pocosâ? (‘One Too Manyâ?) (Spain).
