Originally released in India in 2003 (as Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne), Captured by You is a peculiar film that squishes together a hokey Bollywood love story and a hyperstylized Asian crime drama â?¦ with songs. Opening with a bold midday bank heist, the film seems poised to become a gritty actioner, but inexplicably, an overcaffeinated teenybopper romance begins and seems unwilling to relax its bug-eyed, affected grip on the movie. Thankfully, a poorly explained shift in scenery (to Bangkok) happens soon enough to jolt the mishmash to life. The back-and-forth romance between Tina (Esha Deol) and Vijay (Zayed Khan) is hammy and ridiculous even by Bollywood standards, but as it takes place in the middle of a violent quest for millions of dollars worth of loot, it seems that much more bizarre. Plot twists are tossed in as gently as monkey wrenches (who’s on whose side again?), songs are sung with guileless aplomb, knives are drawn, guns are fired and in the end the dizzying cheesiness comes off like a Bollywood version of a Quentin Tarantino version of a Bollywood movie.
