Only the most ironic or reactionary critic could trumpet Jackass: Number Two, another repulsive installment of the notorious MTV stunt show starring Johnny Knoxville and friends. This seemingly endless assault of grown men humiliating themselves for our perceived pleasure is pure pain-porn, complete with animal sex, sadomasochism and nasty genitalia close-ups. These rebels without cause will do anything for a laugh, but hardly any of Number Two is funny; the material alternates between nauseatingly grotesque and frighteningly cruel, with only a smidgen of humorous Trigger Happy TV‘like asides to quell the torture. The stunts even become repetitive ‘ how many bits can you sit through about snakes, bulls and propelling bodies? At least Number Two once again highlights the MPAA’s absurdity; eating horseshit on camera is fine and dandy, but, in the film’s lone censored scene, drinking horse semen? Well, that’s just crossing the line. Dislike Jackass for its dumbing down of American culture; hate it for its blasphemous use of Pavement’s ‘Cut Your Hairâ?� in a testicle-shaving montage.
