The City Food Hall in Ivanhoe Village officially opened a little over two months ago, but it’s already lost its highest-profile tenant.

Chez Les Copains, the buzzy second-floor brasserie by chefs Michael Collantes (Soseki, Sushi Saint, Perla’s Pizza, Taglish) and DJ Tangalin (Danilo’s Pasta Bar, Asin) has closed. Collantes didn’t give a reason for the closure, but assured Chez Les Copains will have a home in the future.

“We’re just thankful for the chance to bring this restaurant and concept to market,” said Collantes. “It’s unfortunate we had to close down, but we will be seeking a new space.”

Asked if there was an issue with the lease, Collantes simply said, “No.” He added that he won’t be doing another concept in that second-floor space.

Taglish, a project Collantes started in 2019 inside Lotte Market, will continue to operate its stall on the food hall’s ground floor, while Asin, Tangalin’s contemporary Filipino concept, will offer its beautifully constructed dishes just across the lawn inside Arden.

Chez Les Copains, a Bite30 participant, opened its doors in mid-January, three months before City Food Hall officially did, signaling a desire among all parties to get paying patrons into the venue. And while there were some gaffes, Chez Les Copain’s stylish spins on brasserie classics largely impressed, particularly Tangalin’s dry-aged duck thrice-laquered with orange glaze, and those steamed mussels in a sofrito-scented Danish blue cheese sauce.

That said, alcohol couldn’t be served to Chez Les Copains’ patrons for the first three months until the food hall received its license in early April.

This is a developing story, so be sure to check back for updates.
