The nonnative fish are a threat to marine life and coral reef ecosystems because they have few predators and a growing population. The fish feed off important commercial fish like grouper and snapper, according to Ocean Service.
The fish has 18 venomous spines but will be sold at Whole Foods with the spines removed and will cost $8.99 a pound until June 1, when the price then raises to $9.99.
