One of the cool things about the City Beautiful is we have plenty of options for a  legit slice of pizza. Best of all, they don’t require an apology and a resignation from their founder. So rather than ordering some hot white bread with spaghetti sauce smothered on top and a banana pepper in the box, here are few classic local pizza joints worth checking out.

Goodfellas Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant 11873 E. Colonial Drive, Orlando (407) 658-6615 Where do we even begin? Goodfellas’ pies are so good that even getting plain cheese is so worth it. You can build your own with eggplant, fresh garlic and sliced meatballs as toppings you probably won’t see elsewhere, but their meat lover’s is a favorite. Photo via kaeleighsanchez/Instagram
1803 Pizza Kitchen 1803 E. Winter Park Road, Orlando (407) 647-3872 Pizza brunch, anyone? 1803 serves it up. The California-style pizzeria’s custom artisan pies are made by a chef boasting 20 years of experience. Options include spicy chicken, five cheese pesto tomato, and prosciutto and arugula. Pair your personal pizza with wine or draft beer. Photo via 1803_pizza/Instagram
Anthony’s Pizza Cafe 100 N. Summerlin Ave., Orlando (407) 648-0009 This local favorite has been lighting up Thorton Park with its New York City roots in delicious pizza pies since 1998. If you aren’t up for a slice, they serve a variety of pasta dishes, but there’s also calzones and strombolis for a hearty cheesy, meaty combo. Photo via anthonysthortonpark/Instagram
Antonella’s Pizzeria 360 W. Fairbanks Ave., Winter Park (407) 636-5333 There’s a reason why Antonella’s Pizzeria is one of the best 25 restaurants in Orlando, at least according to Yelp. This family-owned hand spins their dough for the lucky guests that can enjoy the humbly-sized pizzeria, but they do the same for delivery and takeout patrons, of course. Gluten-free is an option. Try the “Surf n’turf” topped with shrimp, bacon, garlic and Romano. Photo via tastecooksip/Instagram
Pizzeria Del-Dio 3210 E. Colonial Drive, Orlando (407) 898-1115 Is there another place you can get a heart-shaped pizza? We’ll wait. (No, seriously, let us know). If it’s date night, surprise your S/O with a pie shaped like the love organ and split the toppings in half. They also have gluten-free options and a garlic-butter dipping sauce specially made by the chef. Photo via Source/Source
Antonio’s House of Pizza Multiple locations (407) 636-7222 Antonio’s Brooklyn-style pizzas. Pizza by the slice is available at their Winter Park location on weekdays only, and available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day in Orlando and Kissimmee. Choose from a range of specialties—Adriatic, Bianca, or Grandpa’s Favorite—or build your own pie. If you’re cutting down, try Grandma style for a slightly thinner crust. Brick & Fire Pizza and Wine Co. 1621 S. Orange Ave., Orlando (407) 426-8922 Brick & Fire sets themselves apart by reminding you that they aren’t a chain, and this joint proves why that matters. You want truffle oil drizzled on a pizza already topped with “van Gogh Smoked Gouda” cheese? This is the place. Try a pie from each of their categories—essential, house and specialty—and let us know what you think. Ladies can enjoy complimentary wine on Thursday nights with the purchase of an entree. Pizzeria Roberti 2751 S. Chickasaw Trail, #107, Orlando (407) 634-0041 Joe Roberti of Pizzeria Roberti is determined to serve you pies that are out of this world, unless it’s Sunday or Monday (they’re closed). It’s up to the customer—build your own pizza and let the flavors wash over you with every bite, whether it’s a personal gluten-free or a large to share. Pick between a simple one-topping, or go crazy with unlimited topping options for an additional price. Bonus: you can add shrimp for $4. Photo via pizzeriaroberti/Instagram
Terramia Wine Bar & Trattoria 1150 Douglas Ave., #1040, Altamonte Springs (407) 774-8466 Wine is always a good thing. Terramia has a full wine bar, perfect for enjoying happy hour drinks and apps every day except Sunday. Their new weekday express lunch serves up a variety of entrees, one being a personal Margherita pie and another a hearty stromboli. Photo via A. C./Yelp
Lazy Moon Multiple locations (407) 412-6222 Lazy Moon’s larger-than-life pizza slices will satisfy your pie craving, whether you’re a hungry college kid trekking back from a party late at night or you need a slice the size of your head (or even larger) on your lunch break. Plus, there’s craft beer. Popular deals: “Boxcar Willy” slice and pint for $5 or “Six Guns” 2-topping slice and a soft drink for $7.25. Photo via thejennymoon/Instagram
Mama Mia’s Pizzeria 706 E. Wallace St., Orlando (407) 851-6001 Mama Mia’s continues its reign in Orlando, serving up hand-crafted pizzas to Orlandoans for more than two decades. All of their sauces are homemade, making this spot a genuine pick for fresh goods. Photo via Joni D./Yelp
Gitto’s Pizza 120 S. Orange Ave., Orlando (407) 203-8889 You know there’s already a good handful of pizza joints in downtown O-Town, but Gitto’s gets packed to the brim following the nightlife after hours. And we understand why—apart from having genuinely delicious and nicely-sized slices, you can top them with a garlic knot. That will hit the tipsy spot. Photo via michaeljamesl/Instagram
Armando’s Cucina Italiana 463 W New England Ave., Winter Park (407)-951-8930 Considered a hidden gem in Winter Park, Armando’s Cucina comes right out of your Italian dreams. There’s an outdoor patio for you to enjoy a good pie and a drink from their extensive wine list. An interesting pizza topping they offer: Fontina cheese, which comes from an Italian cow. Napolitaly Pizza Restaurant 3928 S. Semoran Blvd., Orlando (407) 275-7858 Napolitaly lets you get your hands on specialty pies like chicken alfredo or eggplant rollatini. There’s also Grandma’s Pizza to throw you back to the good old days. They also serve up some veggie pizzas if you’re avoiding meat. Photo via Karina V./Yelp
Cafe Paisano 182 FL-434, #1000, Longwood (407) 767-0011 If you rush to judgment on the little Longwood shopping center that Cafe Paisano calls home, you’ll miss out on a worthwhile spot for a good Italian dish. Paisano’s menu has plenty of options for specialty pizzas, including chicken alfredo for when you can’t decide between pasta or pie. Photo via shawnthornsbury/Instagram
Planet Pizza 14 W. Washington St., Orlando (407) 650-8859 This hole-in-the-wall will hit every spot at any hour of the day, particularly when you’re on your way in or out of the downtown Orlando nightlife. Slices and pies are freshly popped in the oven the moment you order. Photo via themiumiu/Instagram
Metro Espresso Pizza Cafe 417 E. Central Blvd., Orlando (407) 422-5282 Metro is a neighborhood favorite around Lake Eola, and their menu is stocked full of something for everybody. There are a dozen—yes, a dozen—gluten-free pizzas, along with a normal group of pie favorites. But then there’s the overwhelming yet intriguing VIP stuffed pie with a double stuffed crust, filled with a variety of meats, cheese and onions. Photo via thortonpark/Instagram
Pie-Fection 3120 S. Kirkman Road, Orlando (407) 523-2200 OK, so when we asked for another pizza spot with heart-shaped delicacies earlier, this was the clear contender. They serve those at Pie-Fection, too. Get a normal pepperoni pizza, or try something new like a Brazilian pizza, or get a Nutella strawberry pizza. Yeah, it’s a thing, and it’s awesome. Proccolino’s 12062 Collegiate Way, #2157, Orlando (407) 207-5111 This small pizza joint is a prime spot for the local university folk to gather for a slice or get a pie delivered past midnight. Proccolino’s garlic knots are to die for, and their pizzas are topped generously so you feel you got what you paid for. Photo via richyungruzlerz/Instagram
Ragazzi’s Pizza & Restaurant 3201 Edgewater Drive, Orlando (407) 999-9973 This College Park pizzeria really throws down, and we’re not just saying that ‘cause they have a liquor bar. There’s craft beer, too, but back to the real topic at hand, their pizza is worth a shot, especially since the slices are generously sized. You can build your own, but they have a good amount of specialty pies to dig into, like the Chicken Carbonara, sharing a namesake (and its ingredients, obviously) with the popular Italian pasta dish. Tartini Pizzeria & Spaghetteria Tartini Pizzeria & Spaghetteria 6327 S. Orange Ave., Orlando (407) 704-8011 Tartini’s offers wood-fired personal pizzas, but you can also get a pretty huge one cut into squares for a reasonable price. As far as goodies to put on your pie, Tartini’s likes to say, “toppings has no limits.” If your family is in town, bring them over ‘cause kids eat free (on Tuesdays). The Wine Barn 959 W. Fairbanks Ave., Winter Park (407) 599-9463 At the Wine Barn, you can wine taste, wine shop or indulge in the rest of their desirable and unique eats. Ask for the “Farmhouse” and you’ll get a wood-fired pie topped with two eggs, among other things. There’s also the “Bacon Mojito,” topped with pork belly bacon, Asiago and Georgia peaches. Thank us later. Photo via jenniferarmadafong/Instagram
Pizza Bruno 3990 Curry Ford Road (No phone number available) Neapolitan-style pizzeria baked in a signature red-oak wood fired oven is the name of the game at Pizza Bruno. Their famous Clam Pie is currently unavailable, but if you’re bored of the same old pepperoni shtick, you can’t go wrong with the hilariously named “FIVE-OHHHH” topped with pickled jalapeños, garlic and roasted pineapple (and a draft beer to top it off).
