Raucous and riotous, Green Day’s American Idiot adapts Green Day’s album of the same name to Quadrophenia-esque results. The musical, which originally premiered in April 2010, is the winner of two Tony Awards and a Grammy for Best Musical Show Album.
This stage production follows Johnny, a lower middle-class antihero, and his friends Tunny and Will in their punk coming-of-age story as they struggle to find meaning in a post-9/11 America. Exploring themes of identity and rebellion, the musical nods to the very now scenes of youth defying the government and demanding better in today’s climate (in both senses of the word). In an information age of hysteria, American Idiot tries to keep it honest, three chords and the truth–style.
