The Brood – released in 1979, just before the Canadian director would achieve international fame with the cult classic
Scanners – is a prime example of “body horror,” featuring a disturbing take on childbirth and parenting that capitalizes on the fears of both those with kids and those without. Not particularly advised for those who are expecting, but let’s face it: You’re gonna see scarier shit real soon. Happy Mother’s Day!
