The Renaissance Theatre Co. has some big names in store for their September fundraising gala event: Broadway and TV star Megan Hilty and RuPaul-winning drag performer Shea Couleé.
“Musical theater icon” (per the Ren’s Donald Rupe) Hilty is well-known to fans of stage and screen. Broadway heads revere her for roles in Wicked, Death Becomes Her, 9 to 5: The Musical, Annie and Noises Off, while the wider pop-culture world has watched her on shows like Patsy and Loretta, Sean Saves the World and plenty of voiceover roles.
Hilty joins RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 5 winner Shea Couleé at the Renaissance Gala fundraiser on Sept. 22. Besides taking part in a special meet-and-greet, Hilty will perform a 25-minute set of music at the event.
This Renaissance Gala fundraiser, happening at the Plaza Live, has an ambitious $200,000 goal for the evening as the company is still recovering from last year’s sudden closure of their Ivanhoe space for many months, which led to a whole lot of construction and permitting work and venue-shuffling.
The Renaissance Gala takes place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, with the show starting at 8 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to dress in Renaissance-themed attire.
