
Whether you know it as Emancipation Day, Freedom Day, Jubilee Day or Juneteenth, Friday, June 19, marks the anniversary of slavery ending in the United States 161 years ago.
Besides being observed as a federal holiday, there are events happening all around the city this weekend observing and celebrating Juneteenth. Here’s a few well worth your time:
Juneteenth Paint & Sip & Liberate
Friday, June 19
The 3rd annual Juneteenth paint and sip will feature a screening of The Facility, a documentary about ICE detention. 6 p.m., Painting With a Twist, 6700 Conroy Windermere Road
Juneteenth: The Liberation of Us
Friday, June 19
A celebration of Black and queer entertainment featuring performances by drag performers E., Soul Erotic, EGOT and Tashae Sherrington. 8:30 p.m., BookBurn Cafe and Social, 2425 E. South St.
Oviedo’s Juneteenth Celebration
Friday, June 19
Johnson Hill/Washington Heights Community Outreach honor Juneteenth with a free event featuring food, educational resources, water safety and pool activities. 10:30 a.m., Riverside Park, 1600 Lockwood Blvd., Oviedo
Know Your Place
Friday, June 19
Award-winning documentary Know Your Place will screen for free all day on a continuous loop at the Orange County Regional History Center in downtown Orlando. Early screenings will take place June 17 at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Orange County Regional History Center, 65 E. Central Blvd.

Love and Liberation: A Boldly Unapologetic Juneteenth Pride Celebration

Eatonville’s Juneteenth Celebration
