Hip-hop and opera are two musical genres you may think can’t be combined — but that’s where Babatunde Akinboboye, Nigerian-American baritone and musical chemist, comes in. Babatunde’s journey with HipHopera started in 2018 after a video of him performing a mashup of Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble” and Rossini’s “Largo al factotum” went viral, landing him on ABC7 Los Angeles and Time magazine.

Since then, Babatunde has continued to perform his HipHopera show as well as starring in operas on stages all around the country. Babatunde’s upcoming tour will be a showcase of his unique storytelling through the surprising synthesis of popular musics of the past and present.

5 p.m. & 7:30 p.m., Sunday, July 19, Judson’s Live, Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, 445 S. Magnolia Ave., drphillipscenter.org, $52-$79.
