
Maybe because January has felt like 12 months of chaos packed into 31 days, we missed the beginning of this celebration of Eatonville’s own visionary author, Zora Neale Hurston. But the Zora! Festival is ramping up in earnest this week, with five days of literary discussions, music, art exhibitions, a multi-day academic conference starting Wednesday, a STEM conference for middle-schoolers on Friday and live performances aplenty.
The capstone Outdoor Festival of the Arts on Saturday and Sunday promises a bounty of vendors, art, food and, of course, music — this time from The Levert Experience, vocal legends the Bar-Kays and tributes to artists from Tina Turner to Frankie Beverly.
And whether you’re a classical music fan or not, Opera Orlando giving a musical teaser to jazz icon Scott Joplin’s opera, Treemonisha, for free (!) on Thursday sure does seem mandatory to us.
