Quick – how many characters from J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit can you name? If your answer sounded something like, “Bilbo, Gandalf, Gollum and I’m out,” then some of us don’t feel so bad. The rest of you collectively gasping at our Tolkien ignorance, take heart: Peter Jackson’s long-awaited film, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, hits theaters Dec. 14, which means the likes of us will be schooled in all things Middle Earth soon enough. In the meantime, you Tolkien lovers can don your whitest, longest beards, brush up on your Elvish and head to Stardust Video & Coffee for “There and Back Again: The Art of Middle Earth,” a costume party celebrating the film’s upcoming release. This is your chance to bring a Tolkien novice, buy them a beer and tell them all about that one-ring-to-rule-them-all business. Just don’t call them your “precious” – they may not understand. – Katherine Ramirez Massey
