Armisen is traveling this spring on his “Comedy for Musicians, but Everyone Is Welcome” tour. The run of shows includes engagements in Austin, Birmingham and Tampa — and Orlando’s Abbey.
“I sometimes imagine it like if I went to go see a comedian/chef do a show about the restaurant world. I don’t know anything about cuisine, you know, the details and inside references, but I’d want to see that. I’d want to hear about that world. Because this is being presented as ‘but everyone is welcome,’ there’s an acknowledgement that not everyone there is a musician,” Armisen explained to the Milwaukee Shepherd.
Besides his notable acting CV, Armisen has formidable music-related chops: His band Trenchmouth was part of Chicago’s post-rock scene alongside Tortoise and Gastr del Sol. He led the house band on Seth Meyers’ late-night show, co-starred in the absurdly sublime “Fistfight in the Parking Lot” skit on SNL and has writing credits on the spot-on soft-rock-spoofing “Blue Jean Committee” episode of Documentary Now.
Fred Armisen headlines the Abbey on April 3. Tickets go on sale imminently through Endoxa Booking.
