Politically sharp sketch comedy features in ‘According to the Fox’ Credit: Courtesy photo

A sketch comedy by writer/director Alana Sasdelli shows the audience eerily similar circumstances to political situations today. According to the Fox jokes about misogyny, but also points out how far others are willing to go to oppress others.

The fox (Alexander Carlson) is leading a movement of men (Madison Pulica, Diana Lopez, Briana Lopez, Sarah Jane Kopecky, Chloe Edwards, Alana Sasdelli) to hate women. These men are all undergoing training to suppress women through political, economic and social ideals. Through stereotypes, inequality and fear-mongering, big issues such as the election are brought into focus, as is the way people in society view gender. In the end, all the cult members are revealed to be women in baggy shirts and fake mustaches, as they confront the fox who had been leading them further into sexist ideals.

The script is written for college-age audiences, with many mainstream jokes from Gen-Z meme culture and issues more pertinent to younger generations. Some of the jokes, whilst funny, made me feel uncomfortable with their edgy, adult nature. However, the point of a lot of social change theater is to point out discrimination that happens in our everyday lives. If you’re looking for a political statement that can still make you laugh, check out this sketch comedy written by students.
