Opera Del Sol founder Nicole Dupré is on a mission. “If we want people to fall in love with this art form, we’ve got to shake it up,” she told Orlando Weekly recently, and the group’s first local show seems solidly aimed to do just that. Opera Wars presents some of the best-known operatic arias (“Ride of the Valkyries,” “Nessun Dorma”) in the setting of an intergalactic cruise, complete with sexy singing space crew and a “pre-launch experience” consisting of a dinner-and-mingle before the show. Food is by Farm & Haus; the script includes references to Star Wars, Star Trek and Firefly; costumes and makeup are a little bit Bowie, a little bit burlesque. Beam us up.
