This Sunday marks the 35th Anniversary of Epcot
and Disney has a huge celebration planned for their one-of-a-kind theme park. The unique World’s Fair-inspired park is the first Disney property to be fully designed after Walt Disney’s passing.
Epcot of today is far from the bold "edutainment" showplace it was originally opened as and even farther from the living city of Walt Disney’s dream. It’s also a park in the midst of huge changes
, with numerous major projects currently either under construction or about to break ground.
The anniversary celebration kicks off on Sunday, Oct. 1, on 10:01 a.m. at the Fountain View stage, with a small ceremony featuring Mariachi Cobre and Voices of Liberty.
Commemorative Guide Maps and exclusive “I Was There” merchandise
will also mark the occasion. Other 35th Anniversary merchandise will be available at the park for an extended time. Much of the merchandise has a 1980s retro feel to it with many items featuring Epcot’s favorite purple dragon Figment. An exclusive T-shirt for annual passholders will also be offered.
Altogether there will seven exclusive items ranging from T-shirts to hats to pins that will be released for one day only on Oct. 1 and will be sold exclusively at a pop-up shop near the Art of Disney store, which is on the west side of Spaceship Earth.
The day will be closed with a special edition of Epcot’s nighttime entertainment spectacular IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth.
The opening ceremony, guide maps, and special edition of IllumiNations are included in regular park admission. A valid Annual Pass is required to purchase the special AP T-shirt.
