The Winter Park boutique hotel will start construction in the late summer and anticipates completing the project in the first quarter of 2021, according to a press release. The expansion will happen on the hotel’s current valet surface parking lot, which will move all parking to the SunTrust parking garage also owned by Rollins.
The Alfond Inn will add 73 additional rooms, with “spacious luxury rooms and several large suites” that can be converted into two-bedroom suites, bringing the hotel’s total amount of guest rooms to 185, the release says.
The expansion will also add a “state-of-the-art wellness center and spa” that will offer a limited number of memberships to locals, as well as a second swimming pool with an elevated outdoor area and fixed cabanas, according to the release.
More than 2,000 square feet of new meeting and public space will also be added, which will partially be used to display more artwork from the Alfond Collection of Contemporary Art, an extension of the Cornell Fine Arts Museum at Rollins.
“This is an exciting time for The Alfond Inn and for Winter Park as we embark on the next phase of the hotel’s evolution,” says Jesse Martinez, the hotel’s general manager, in a statement. “Thanks to the tremendous support of the community, Rollins College, our partners and of course, our guests, we will be able to provide an even higher level of hospitality. The new guest rooms, the additional function space and the new spa are true game changers, allowing us to serve our guests even better and to fulfill our philanthropic goals, which are always at the heart of our mission.”
The Alfond Inn’s expansion will be overseen by its original design team from Baker Barrios Architects in Orlando.
