For 10 years, BlackBook has done its highbrow best to challenge the notion of the fashion glossy by juxtaposing film focus with intellectual focus, presumably to the delight of the eye-rolling cognoscenti. The Revolution Will Be Accessorized compiles published submissions from some of the breadwinners of the new arts/culture generation (those with fashion issues) and provides what might be described as valuable insight into the high-end pulse of the Western world. Or might not be. The problem here is pretension. If you’re interested in reading what Douglas Coupland has to say to Naomi Klein about the Gap, then perhaps this sort of store-bought subversion is just the ticket. Admirably, Augusten Burroughs, JT Leroy (or not), Damien Hirst and Joan Didion also make ruminative appearances, but those shy of a New Yorker subscription and a home espresso machine may choose to simply avoid the chatter and skip the revolution.
