What we have here are some mostly pointless, mostly true tidbits everyone should have ready for their next car full of guests. Basically, these are your run-of-the-mill “dad facts.” Now, who wants to go to the mall for Cinnabon?
Charles Barkley once tossed a guy through a bar window in downtown Orlando
You don’t want to mess with Charles Barkley at the bar. Back in 1997, Sir Charles was on the Houston Rockets and was in town for an exhibition game against the Magic. When a 20-year-old threw a glass of ice at him. Barkley responded by throwing him through a glass window saying, ”You got what you deserve. You don’t respect me. I hope you’re hurt.” Barkley was arrested, but it didn’t seem to have much of an effect on his career.

Because the Florida Hospital, which is founded by Seventh-Day Adeventists, owns the property, bacon is not allowed to be sold at this particular Wendy’s. So, that means no Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers, Baconators, or any other product featuring the forbidden flesh.
Photo via Google MapsSome very drunk explorer actually climbed the pyramid at Epcot’s Mexico Pavilion
The structure is modeled after the Mayan pyramids, which of course are just massive sets of stairs. Well, one man in 2015 took notice of this during the park’s Food and Wine Festival. After enough liquid courage, he was able to stand for tempted drunks everywhere and safely make it to the top and back down. Unfortunately, security was waiting for him at the bottom and he’ll probably never be able to walk into a Disney park ever again.

Photo via Screengrab via YouTubeThe owner of the “I-4 Eyesore” says this building will be finished every year
SuperChannel 55 President Claud Bowers started this building over 16 years ago and was funding it completely through donations to his Christian network. Unfortunately for him, the 2008 recession brought those donations to a screeching halt along with construction, leaving the building partially finished. Bowers makes an annual promise that the building will be completed around Thanksgiving that is never met. He has also refused to use his own money to finish the building because he believes it will be completed through “God’s will.”

After being acquitted for fatally shooting Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman has developed a reputation for being a real asshole in public. He’s been known to get drunk and obnoxious, and bystanders have often said it’s not uncommon to hear the occasional racial slur. This has led to him being kicked out of several local establishments and also allegedly getting punched in the face at Gator’s Riverside Grille after bragging about killing Trayvon.

Photo via Photo via Huffington PostThe old Orlando City Hall was blown up in Lethal Weapon 3
In the opening scene in Lethal Weapon 3 you can catch a glimpse of the old Orlando City Hall building, and then watch it be blown to pieces. Orlando had just built the new building that is used today and rather than just letting a perfectly good demolition go to waste, they somehow sold it to the movie. This worked out great for the city. Not only was the demo free, but they were reportedly able to make upwards of $50,000 on the deal.

Photo via Photo via Silver PicturesThose weird looking white birds will probably give you salmonella
Yup, the white ibis are dirty birds. Recent tests showed that 13 percent of adult birds and 35 percent of nestlings had salmonella. Researchers believe that ibises pick up salmonella bacteria from soil, water, or other bird poop while foraging, and then pass it on to people and their young. Just make sure to keep a safe distance and you probably shouldn’t feed them either.

Photo via Photo via FlickrThe Holy Land Experience is the only Orlando theme park that doesn’t pay property taxes
The Holy Land Experience, a Bible-based attraction next to I-4 is hard to miss. The park features a church-themed mini-golf course, a rock climbing wall and other attractions. Because they display biblical images, the park qualifies for a tax loophole. The only catch is they’re required by law to host at least one free day a year for their guests.. It’s estimated they’ve dodged at least $2.2 million in property taxes since 2006.

Photo via Photo via Holy Land ExperienceThere’s a good chance you’ll die on I-4
Statistically speaking, I-4 is the deadliest highway in the country. Seriously, this 132 mile stretch of road is risky, and to make matters worse Orlando is the most dangerous section of the most dangerous road. Of the 165 deaths that took place between 2011-2015, 19 of them were in Orlando. Make sure you wear your seatbelt when you enter this Thunderdome of a road.

Photo via Photo via CoreyDanks/ EtsyColonial Drive is old as hell
Colonial Drive is part of State Road 50 which is Florida’s oldest highway. Just before the 1920s the portion that went through Orlando was actually a trail and not technically a road, meaning it wasn’t paved. From there it became a brick road and has been developing since. It’s still a major pain in the ass to drive on though.

Photo via Photo via WikipediaParis Hilton had her own nightclub in downtown Orlando for a brief moment
From 2004 to 2007 Church Street Station was known as Club Paris. It was supposed to be the next big thing in luxury clubbing, with $3 million spent in renovations alone. Paris Hilton also had her name attached to it and was promised to make visits on a regular basis. She didn’t. Instead she ended up in jail for violating her probation and the whole business model kinda went down from there.

Photo via Instagram/ princessss2007Downtown Orlando can’t build real skyscrapers
The skyline of a city is usually one of its most defining features, unfortunately for Orlando we can’t build all that tall. Due to the proximity of Orlando International Airport to the Orlando Executive Airport on Colonial, there are overlapping of flight patterns. This means that flights going into the Executive Airport need to fly a little lower to avoid collisions with MCO planes, and that puts downtown Orlando directly in their path. There is no set limit to how high a building can be, but the FAA needs to approve construction of any high rise in the area. As of now the SunTrust building is the tallest at 441 feet and 30 stories. It’s not likely that there will be anything taller anytime soon either.

Photo via Photo via ModernLifeDaterTwitterMister Rogers’ neighborhood was actually Winter Park
At Rollins College, Fred Rogers wrote “Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” as his senior thesis. The Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood star graduated from the college in 1951 with a degree in music composition. He also had a house in Winter Park. So, I guess we know which neighborhood he was referring to.There is a pond in Winter Park that has a mysterious past
Until 1981, what is now Lake Rose, was a person’s house, backyard and part of a Porsche dealership. One of the risks of living in Central Florida though are the massive sinkholes that come out of nowhere. At the time this this a 350-foot wide and 75-foot deep sinkhole and was “the largest sinkhole event witnessed by man as a result of natural geological reasons or conditions,” according to geologist Jim Jammal. Legend has it that one of the five Porsches that was lost to the sinkhole had a trunk full of money and/or drugs.

Things can go south pretty quick if you party too hard. Just last December a man stole a swan boat in the middle of the night and made his way to Linton E. Allen Memorial fountain in Lake Eola. His luck really ran out though when his vessel floated away while he was still on the fountain. This led to him screaming for help until the fire department came to his rescue and then took him to the hospital for evaluation. Authorities said he seemed to be “under the influence of something.”

This Pine Hills house was never built to be a place for Elvis superfans to visit, but was intended to be a private home. As of lately the house is owned by a family who would rather be left alone than have people come admire it.

Four about 20 years, from the ‘70s through the ‘90s, this was the location of the Harley Hotel, a place where musicians visiting Orlando would notoriously stay, but rarely sleep. Jeff Nolan, Marilyn Manson and more stayed here. Now they are a relatively quiet place with a great view of Lake Eola.Orlando’s poor design is why you’re probably stuck in traffic right now
This may come as no surprise to anyone who has driven through a major city before, but Orlando is particularly bad. This because our city is laid out like absolute garbage; we’ve even been ranked one of the worst in the country. Between neighborhoods whose roads look like they have been scribbled on a page, to highways the abruptly end to a 50-foot drop onto a downtown street, Orlando needs to pull it together when it comes to roads.
