The current Orange County mayor, Teresa Jacobs, cannot run again since she is term-limited. But so far, Demings doesn’t face any serious competition in the next election. So far, the only other people that have filed to run are Jose Datil Colom (who was once ordered to serve probation for a corruption case) and Robert Edward Melanson (who was once convicted of trespassing on the roof of Rihanna’s mansion).
At this point, we’re not really sure what his platform stands. But Demings, whose wife is congresswoman Val Demings, will hold a press conference this Friday to shed more light on his candidacy.
According to Florida law, Demings would have to formally resign in order to qualify to run for mayor, and would have to do so by Dec. 4, 2018, reports the Orlando Sentinel.
