Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs delivered her state-of-the-county address today, jointly unveiling an effort with some of Orlando's top chefs and tourism bureau Visit Orlando to create Orlando's "signature dish."

"We are becoming quite the foodie place to be, and most people still don't know that," said Jacobs regarding the culinary initiative.

Jacobs likens the search for Orlando's signature dish to fish & chips in London, cheese steaks in Philadelphia and Mississippi Mud Pie in, uh, Mississippi. Never mind the decades of history those dishes have behind them. Time to make history ourselves.

Beyond turkey legs and butterbeer (which, honestly, isn't a half-bad salty-sweet combo, IMHO), what would Orlando's signature dish contain? That's what the team of chefs partnered with Visit Orlando is trying to figure out.

Jacobs is singing the same tune we usually are: "There's more to Orlando than meets the eye – there's also the Orlando that meets the palate."
