Rethinking the City: Orlando's Pedestrian Safety Problem event at East End Market

Posted By on Tue, Jun 24, 2014 at 2:24 PM

Rethinking the City is a monthly event and weekly radio show on WPRK that meditates on ways people can or are already engaged in positively changing Orlando and Central Florida. It began as a part of the Signature Series of events at Urban ReThink – the now defunct and greatly missed co-working and cultural events hub in Thornton Park – and is now one of the only remaining cultural phenoms of that once great institution.

Tonight’s topic will be Envision a Walkable City – Orlando’s Pedestrian Safety Problem, a timely issue as Orlando once again received a failing grade for our dangerous pedestrian environment see - Orlando is the least walkable metro area in the U.S.

Speakers include Stefanie Seskin from Smart Growth America’s Complete Streets Coalition via Skype and Amanda Day from Best Foot Forward Orlando. Seskin is the co-author of the Dangerous by Design 2014 report that ranked Orlando as the Number 1 most dangerous city in the country for pedestrians and Day will present the local perspective on pedestrian safety and advocacy in Central Florida. The event will take place in East End Market outdoor courtyard tonight at 6:30 p.m.
