A humdrum Monday night in the City Beautiful turned into a surprise sonic devotional when Nirosta Steel held court at Will’s Pub. This was a one-off show for Steel, aka Steven Hall, who aired songs from sleeper-hit double LP My Skyscraper as well as Cold Fire and an Arthur Russell number or two. Fast Preacher opened the night, as really the perfect (and perhaps only) local choice to pair with Steel’s alien-pop virtuosity.
Nirosta Steel took the stage in front of a packed, multigenerational house at Will’s that included longtime friends and family, and held court with an acoustic guitar, a gentle voice and rhythm backing tracks. (And stories. Many, many stories.) The audience was enraptured, Steel sold out of records and everyone left the building slightly dazed.
