A woman sits in the middle of the stage in a sheer robe trimmed with feathers. She admires herself in the mirror and then seems to notice the audience that crowds around her. Before the show even starts, she interacts with them in a pleasant manner. Once the show begins, we are introduced to the star and writer of this one-woman show, Gabrielle Leonore.
Leonore reveals to the audience pretty much right off the bat that she is autistic and was diagnosed when she was 2. Throughout the show, she explains how autism has impacted not only her life, but how people see her and she sees them. One of those aspects was balancing the duality of being “hot” and autistic, or as she put it, “hotistic.” She shared facts about autism and her real-world experience with it that were simultaneously entertaining and educational.
Besides some stories she shared on her experience with bad and then slightly better sex, there isn’t anything particular pornographic about her material. I could tell Leonore was a bit nervous as she tripped on some of her words, which sometimes took away from the setup for the punch line. Other than that, Leonore is a honest and endearing personality, who carries herself in a way that feels genuine and has enough stage presence to carry herself throughout the show.
My Life as an “Inspirational Porn” Star left me inspired. Not necessarily to become a porn star, but to continue persevering, something Leonore has done quite well.
