Last week, IKEA released tons of images of the new products that will be available in the 2016 catalog, and the kitchen stuff is especially nice. Those wood ring trivets! That iron serveware!

One item that has gotten a lot of attention is the Sittning placemat (above), which has a little pocket sewn on so you can stash your phone during dinner … you know, to be polite or whatever.

“Or whatever” is right! You’ll pry our iPhones out of our cold dead hands! However, we’ll admit that some items should be stowed away during a pleasant meal with friends; here are a few things we’d agree to live without for a half-hour or so at the table.

The Sittning placemat could be useful for keeping sunglasses out of the way.

It’s always smart to keep a sponge handy for cleanup.

Wearing brass knuckles at the table isn’t a good look.

Sell those loosies after dinner, not during.

Look forward to dessert.

Keep your pet sugar glider corralled.

Good place to hide all the peas you picked out of your mom’s “guacamole à la New York Times.”

What will YOU put in your Sittning placemat pocket?
