Today at about noon, transportation company Uber began operating in Orlando. Through June 20, you can try the service out for free (up to 10 trips at $20 each). The company, which hires individual car owners to taxi people around the city at fluctuating rates that vary depending on demand, started advertising for drivers here a while go. There was some speculation about whether the company would set up shop here, after a failed attempt to get the state to eliminate the minimum luxury car rate, but today the app went live.
