According to the Palm Beach Police Department, the rare Goeldi’s monkey named Kali was taken from its enclosure Monday, and needs medication and a very specialized diet.
Goeldi’s monkeys are native to South America, specifically the Amazon rainforest, and are considered a vulnerable species. Kali was one of five in an enclosure at the zoo, reports WPEC. Images from a security camera show a figure near the enclosure early Monday morning, reports the station.
Authorities say the monkey could fetch as much as $10,000 on the black market.
