The Lost Room boasts a premise that would have a more Dada Philip K. Dick kvelling from beyond the grave. Seems that in 1961 something caused reality to spaz out and disgorge super-powered ‘objectsâ? ‘ think a killer pen, a bus ticket that teleports the owner to New Mexico, a clock that melts bronze and so on. Those who find these objects become Gollum-like wrecks addicted to their otherworldly trinkets. Peter Krause (Six Feet Under) is a cop whose daughter has been absorbed by the titular way station between the object-spewing world and ours; he must battle both weird physics and the warring ‘cabalsâ? of object-collectors to find the poor girl. Unlike that other shark-jumping Lost show, writers/co-executive producers Christopher Leone and Laura Harkcom’s smart and addictive Sci-Fi Channel miniseries hews to an eccentric but consistent internal logic. A who’s-who of oddball supporting players ‘ our fave is Margaret Cho as a cynical ‘objects brokerâ? ‘ render the film as delightful as it is creepy.
