The pair have been serving their stellar tamales, tacos and street fare from the Tamale Co. inside the Hourglass Market for nearly six years, as well as from their Tamale Co. food truck since 2012. But running a full-fledged restaurant — in a finicky neighborhood like College Park, no less — presents a different sort of challenge. It’s one they’ve been wanting to take on.
“Expansion is always in our plans,” the Tamayos said in a press release. “It’s been a long journey, and the path keeps on growing, soon with Tamale Co. College Park and our best adventure yet, baby Tamayo!”
Yes, the Tamayos are expecting their first child right around the time the restaurant is slated to open — Cinco de Mayo. When it does, they’ll offer their signature, hand-crafted tamales and Mexican street fare in addition to “new menu items exclusive for College Park.”
“We hope the College Park community will embrace us with the same warmth and support that the Hourglass neighborhood has.”
So do I, amigos, so do I.
