The Out of the Darkness walk returns to Baldwin Park in at the beginning of February, for an 18th year, to raise awareness around issues of mental health and suicide prevention.

Organized by the local chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention,  this walk is one of hundreds organized across the country. The 2-and-change-mile walk around Lake Baldwin is a fundraiser for AFSP’s efforts to destigmatize mental health struggles and promote suicide prevention.

As of this writing, the walk has raised $52,298 out of a $200,000 goal to support AFSP’s efforts in research, advocacy and support programs to promote mental health.

Out of the Darkness takes place on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. at Baldwin Park; the walk starts just across from 2420 Lakemont Ave. Onsite check-in opens at 1 p.m. If interested in taking part, you can still register through the AFSP’s website.

There is no registration fee or fundraising minimum to participate; you can participate individually or as part of a team.
