You’d be hard-pressed to find a better place to celebrate “International Women’s Day” than an Ani DiFranco and Rainbow Girls concert. And that’s what we got here in Orlando over the weekend.
Touring openers Rainbow Girls were fun, with great harmonies and undeniable musical chops. The crowd took to this Californian trio immediately.
Then, after a delay due to sound problems, it was time for DiFranco after several years’ absence from Florida.
DiFranco played a set of fiery anthems and exhortations from newest album Unprecedented Sh!t plus older favorites like “Worthy” and “32 Flavors.” Many in the crowd sang along to every single word.
DiFranco was in great spirits. She told the audience that she took basically all of 2024 off from touring and had to relearn “all her shit” — which included having to go online and look up chords and lyrics.
“Don’t believe what you read online!” yelled a very sage fan, followed by another yelling, “Thank you for coming to Florida.”
“Thank you for living in Florida,” replied DiFranco. “I don’t know you personally, but I kind of have an impression that Florida needs you.”
