The Orlando Public Library celebrates its 50th anniversary this weekend with a talk from architectural historian Christine Madrid French, and it will be a celebration of concrete. The downtown landmark is a prime example of Brutalist architecture, a school of design that set out to make buildings in a raw and fortress-like style. In fact, the library was designed to require as little maintenance as possible. Take a self-guided tour of the building, learn about Brutalism and hear how the library compares internationally in this architectural style. It's both a celebration and an educational experience, and what could be better?
