The crushing weight of the hype behind Between the Buried and Me’s seventh album, Coma Ecliptic, could be enough to submerge shrewder music fans into dubious terrain, but luckily it dropped just in time (July 7) for there to be no guesswork before this week’s show. Fans of the band’s mathy prog and epic concepts have been rewarded with more than an hour of expansive chugs that noodle fluently through heavy music’s smartest facets, generating an album that’s head and shoulders above most popular metal, which seems to get limper with each Facebook like. Superfans have VIP options worth looking into, including a meet & greet, photo ops and a Q&A with Between the Buried and Me (and/or also with openers Animals as Leaders), a signed poster, and early admittance. We’d say don’t sleep on this album, but we don’t want to send a mixed message, given that one of their new singles is called “The Coma Machine.”

Between the Buried and Me with Animals as Leaders, the Contortionist | 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 9 | Venue 578, 578 N. Orange Ave. | 407-872-0066 | venue578.com | $20-$50
