Last Sunday, May 31, a Florida teen was knocked unconscious after a 6ft sturgeon jumped out of the Suwanee River.

According to the Associated Press, Heavyn Nash, a 14-year-old resident of Fanning Springs, was enjoying a leisurely boat ride with family members in Manatee Springs State Park, when a sturgeon sprung into the boat, knocking her out.

Nash was treated at a local hospital and is expected to fully recover.

Sunday's fish assault marks the second incident involving a sturgeon on a north Florida river in two weeks. Another sturgeon jumping incident was reported on the Santa Fe River on May 23rd.

As an overall species, sturgeon can get pretty huge, ranging anywhere between 7-18 ft in length and weighing up to  2000 pounds. They can also leap more than seven feet out of the water, something that many people still consider a great mystery
