For those of you still wondering what the heck those anti-Skyplex mailers were about, Skyplex attorney Hal Kantor could have your answer.

Before the Orange County Commission voted to approve Skyplex, Kantor said Universal Orlando opposed the project because Universal is trying to buy a 474-acre property near Universal Boulevard, currently owned by Colony Capital LLC.

Orange County Commissioners Ted Edwards and Pete Clarke told the Orlando Sentinel that Universal representatives said the company could buy the property and "expressed concerns for overall planning in the area, and the impact of the proposed Skyplex rollercoaster on Universal's expansion plans."

Kantor says Universal was trying to suppress business for an advantage and financial gain. Universal representatives declined to comment on the rumors.

"It's a big deal," Kantor says. "They could plan a theme park. If Universal acquires that site, then they start acting more like Disney."
