The 700 ft tall Skyscraper at Skyplex has announced another new addition to what is beginning to sound like the ultimate one-stop shop for thrills along International Drive. Along with the 570 ft tall roller coaster, the world’s tallest roller coaster by well over 100 ft, a new 600 ft long powered reversed zipline and the 450 ft tall Skyfall drop tower Skyplex will now also feature a surf park.
The new surf park will be adjacent to the on-site 350 room hotel, both sitting on top of the 10-story parking structure. The large main surf pool will have surfers facing towards the Skyscraper tower. Two small surf pools will have surfers facing east with the tower to their right. Bleachers overlook the main pool which is designed to host professional competitions. Two pool bars, a café and a surf shop finish out the surf park. The hotel pool and meeting space will be on the same deck. Palm trees and other tropical foliage finish out the Miami Beach style pool deck.
The new Skyplex surf park is just one of many proposed for the Central Florida market.
Fantasy Surf of Kissimmee offers a similar, controlled surf experience. The massive
Xero Gravity Action Sports Park proposed for Kissimmee will also include surf simulators. Ron Jon at one time was part of a group planning to open
a similar attraction at what is now Artegon Marketplace. Surf simulators were also included in the
extreme sports park once proposed next to go in next door to Artegon as well. Both of the proposals have now been cancelled.
The Skyscraper at Skyplex now has an opening goal of Spring 2018. Along with the attractions already mentioned it will also host the world’s largest Perkins, an updated Burger King, retail and a nightclub/observation deck 55 stories up. Skyplex recently received
FAA approval for the tower and is now going through zoning changes with the county.
