A woman was arrested in March after police say she drowned her dog at Orlando International Airport in 2024 before boarding an international flight to Colombia. Now, they say they can’t find her.
Police accuse 57-year-old Clermont native Alison Lawrence of killing her 9-year-old white miniature schnauzer named Tywinn. He was found dead in a bathroom on Dec. 16, 2024, according to the Orlando Police Department, and his cause of death was deemed drowning.
Lawrence at the time was arrested and later released on bail. But now, a judge has ordered Lawrence’s arrest after she didn’t show up to a court hearing in her ongoing criminal case.
The Orlando Sentinel reports that a sheriff’s office spokesperson said Monday deputies went to Lawrence’s home to arrest her but she was not there. A resident told them she no longer lives at the location.
An arrest affidavit said Lawrence was “believed to have taken extreme and tragic action by killing the dog” after she was denied boarding the dog because she lacked the proper paperwork to take him on her flight to Colombia.
An employee noticed that a woman had been in a stall for an extended period of time, and appearing to be cleaning up “a lot of water and a lot of dog food” off the floor. The employee left, then returned about 20 minutes later to see the same woman, who has since been identified as Lawrence. Inside a nearby trash can, the employee found Tywinn’s body, along with a vest, collar, pet travel bag and other accessories, including a dog tag with Lawrence’s contact information.
After an investigation, police arrested Lawrence March 19 on a charge of aggravated animal cruelty, a third-degree felony.
