Black History Month starts Sunday, Feb. 1, and the City of Orlando is gearing up for a slate of celebratory things to do.

Orlando will host a series of events centered around the 2026 national theme, “A Century of Black History Commemorations.” Mayor Buddy Dyer and the Orlando City Council invite the community to honor the 100th anniversary of Black History Month and the lasting impact of Black history, culture and achievement in the City Beautiful.

City of Orlando’s Black History Month Art Exhibition opening reception kicks off at Orlando City Hall’s Terrace Gallery at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3. The exhibition features the work of 28 local visual artists, all inspired by this year’s theme. The artwork highlights how a century of observance has shaped education, cultural institutions and community storytelling. The exhibition will run through March 31.

Downtown Orlando will host S.W.A.G. “The Art Experience” at new park Art2 on North Orange Avenue on Saturday, Feb. 7. The immersive event celebrates Black History Month with interactive art installations, live DJ performances, curated vendors, food trucks and exhibits from featured Black visual artists. Attendees can also help to complete a collaborative community mural.

The celebratory events continue with the City of Orlando’s Black History Month Community Celebration at the Plaza Live on Tuesday, Feb. 10. The free event will honor the achievements of influential Black figures past and present. It’ll wrap up with a reception complete with food, entertainment and performances by City Beautiful Voices, the City of Orlando’s employee choir.
