Orlando's first Operation Blue Tarp Staging Center opens today at the Edgewater Orange Country Library location to help homeowners recovering from Hurricane Irma.

Distribution will begin at 10 a.m. at 5049 Edgewater Drive.

The initiative is part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Operation Blue Roof, a program organized with FEMA that helps homeowners prevent further damages to their roofs following natural disasters.

Tarp distributions began in several counties throughout the state shortly after Irma hit. However staging centers in Orange, Seminole, Osceola and Lake County only began opening within the past week. The Orlando location opening comes from a push from Sen. Bill Nelson and U.S. Rep. Stephanie Murphy.
