Florida wildlife officials began selling bear-hunting permits Monday in spite of a pending lawsuit from conservation groups challenging the constitutionality of the bear hunt, reports NEWS 13.
Last week, the Seminole County-based group Speak Up Wekiva filed a lawsuit in Leon County trying to block the state from selling the bear-hunt permits until the suit is settled.
The permits cost $100 for Florida residents and $300 for non-residents to kill one bear per person during the hunt, which takes place from Oct. 24-30. Permits are available online through the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission’s website and can be purchased at tax collector offices, sporting goods stores and Walmart.
