
The average gallon of regular unleaded gas was $3.12 on Sunday, a penny lower than a week earlier. But the auto club warned of increased pressure on fuel costs amid record traffic expected during the upcoming holiday.
“Oil prices increased last week on concerns that rising tensions in Ukraine could impact global crude supplies,” AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said in a release. “While higher oil prices should cause an uptick in prices at the pump, it’s unlikely to be significant enough to cause people to cancel travel plans.”
AAA projects that 4.5 million Floridians will travel over 50 miles for Thanksgiving, and the vast majority of travelers will be driving.
Across the state, the average gallon of regular unleaded gas was $3.11 in Duval County, down from $3.13 a week earlier, while the cost in Orange County was $3.16, up from $3.15 in the same time. Okaloosa County had the lowest average per-gallon price, at $2.73. In Monroe County, which includes the Florida Keys, the average was $3.29 a gallon. Nationally, the average gallon of gas was $3.06 on Sunday, 1 cent lower than a week earlier.
Heading into the holiday period a year ago, the national average was $3.27 a gallon, while in Florida the average stood at $3.03 a gallon.
