The Federal Aviation Administration on Monday announced it is opening an investigation after several drones collided and fell from the sky over the weekend at an Orlando holiday show, injuring one person.

The Saturday-night event in Lake Eola Park ended early when several drones plunged into the large crowd of onlookers.

WESH reported that the person injured was a 7-year-old boy, who reportedly had to have emergency open-heart surgery on Sunday after being struck in the face and chest by a drone.

“Our thoughts are with the family and all those impacted by the outcome of this event,” city officials said in a statement. “The city remains in contact with the vendor and FAA who will conduct a thorough investigation.” The vendor in question is Sky Elements Drones, out of Texas. In September, Sky Elements placed third on NBC’s  America’s Got Talent show.

Sky Elements Drones told People magazine in a statement after the incident, “Sky Elements Drones wants to extend our sincere hope for a full and speedy recovery to those impacted at our Lake Eola show in Orlando on Saturday, Dec. 21. The well-being of our audience is our utmost priority, and we regret any distress or inconvenience caused.”

The Orlando Fire Department confirmed Monday morning to media outlets that one person had been injured during the mishap.

By Monday, the Federal Aviation Administration announced the agency was opening an investigation to get to the bottom of exactly what happened.
