Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago visitor logs could soon be public

Visitor logs from President Donald Trump's oceanside resort Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach could soon be made public by a government watchdog group.

The Palm Beach Post reports Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, or CREW, announced it will make public any visitor logs it receives from the Department of Homeland Security by Sept. 8. CREW, the National Security Archive and the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University filed a lawsuit for visitor records from the White House, Mar-a-Lago and Trump Tower earlier this year. Last week, a federal judge ordered DHS to "complete its search for and processing of responsive 'records of presidential visitors at Mar-a-Lago,' and produce any non-exempt responsive records" by September, according to the Associated Press.

"The public deserves to know who is coming to meet with the president and his staff," CREW Executive Director Noah Bookbinder said in a statement. "We are glad that as a result of this case, this information will become public for meetings at his his personal residences – but it needs to be public for meetings at the White House as well."

During Trump's various trips to Mar-a-Lago in the first months of his administration, little was known about the other guests who were also visiting the resort at the same time as the president. CREW has argued this lack of information regarding who is visiting the Trump-dubbed "winter White House" poses security risks and "leaves the American public in the dark as to who is possibly engaging with the most powerful decision maker in the country."
