After taking a beating from hurricanes, Flagler Beach Pier has finally reopened

After the Flagler Beach landmark took a double beating from Hurricane Matthew and Hurricane Irma, the boardwalk is once again in working, walk-able condition, News 6 Orlando reports.

Last year, Hurricane Matthew destroyed about 160 feet of the pier, forcing the city to temporarily close the landmark. And although the damage was a somewhat easy fix, Hurricane Irma romped the structure yet again in September, causing a further delay.

Hurricane Matthew — the most powerful storm of the 2016 season — caused more than $1.3 billion in damage across Florida.

Flagler County, along with Volusia, Duval, Brevard and St. Johns, were among the counties that represented the majority of more than 112,000 individual property-damage claims, totaling in excess of $729 million in value.

As of Friday morning, Flagler Beach Pier is officially reopen to the public.
