Spotlighting Latin jazz here should be considered compulsory, and few are better suited to showcase it than Dimas Sanchez. As one of the city’s preeminent ambassadors of Latin music, Sanchez doesn’t simply play the music, he spreads the gospel of its heritage with scholarly knowledge and purpose.

The Afro-Latin Jazz Project is a septet specializing in Caribbean music traditions. This program — titled Afro Antillano — will be a synthesis of the Afro-Caribbean pulses of Puerto Rico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. It’ll be a dazzling study of our sister region in all its complexity and color.

7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 28, Timucua Arts Foundation, timucua.com, $22.50-$30.
