One of the great sympatico duos in electronic music history — up their with Soft Cell, Suicide, Pet Shop Boys and Erasure — was Douglas McCarthy and Bon Harris of Nitzer Ebb. Their creative chemistry was one of total frisson and push/pull, encouraging one another to harsher beats, more over-the-top dancing, louder shouts, more undeniable chants. But now two have become on with McCarthy’s untimely passing a couple years back, but Harris still curries the pop-EBM flame.
There is no new music or product to promote, no app or (thank god) AI venture. This tour is just about celebration of a band who’s catalog of synth-punk anthems are so direct, it’s like a fiber-optic lifeline between your heart and your feet. This is music for dancing, make no mistake. But it’s got an agit-pop edge that is perfect for our dystopian times. Sine and Curse Mackey open, and they’re always a good, sinister time.
