The Zora! Festival honoring the local heritage of Their Eyes Were Watching God author Zora Neale Hurston (and, really, the strength of the Eatonville community) is always one of the year’s most anticipated celebrations, and not only because Hurston, long a local symbol of overcoming oppression, was instrumental in the vaunted Harlem Renaissance. It’s genuinely a party, something every Central Floridian should attend at least once (OK, annually). This would be a good year, as Maze featuring Frankie Beverly (“Happy Feelin’s,” “Love Is the Key”) headlines the fair Jan. 31, a show that’s likely to be a bit of a soul-powered throwdown. Jazz stalwart Najee picks up the slack the next night, but the whole long weekend is full of events meant to share cultural history while keeping the rhythm of forward and fantastic movement and tribute. Choose your own adventure.

MAZE featuring Frankie Beverly show 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31 | Kennedy Boulevard between Calhoun and Gabriel avenues, Eatonville | zorafestival.org | $10-$50
